3d Printed Prostheses
MakeIt Labs is proud to be pursuing status as a community chapter of e-NABLE, supported by the volunteer members of MakeIt Labs and a grant from BAE. MakeIt Labs is a community workshop (a.k.a makerspace or hackerspace), and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
WHAT IS e-NABLE?
e-NABLE is a global network of volunteers who are using their 3D printers, design skills, and personal time to create free 3D printed prosthetic hands for those in need – with the goal of providing them to under-served populations around the world.
CHOOSING A DEVICE
e-NABLE has a range of designs available. They fit into two broad categories: wrist powered and elbow powered. To see a full range of available designs, visit http://enablingthefuture.org/which-design/
FITTING A DEVICE
In order to fit a device, proper measurements need to be taken. To find out how to send measurements, click here. If you live close enough to visit, the photos can be taken at the lab by a volunteer.
To schedule a fitting, send an email to the address in the contact info section below.
Printing can take between 3-7 days. Total printing time for a device depends on four things: which design, what size, printer availability, and volunteer availability. Once the parts have been printed they are cleaned up and assembled, which can take 1-3 days.
