Recommended PPE Designs

There are many groups around the globe working to ease the shortage of PPE felt by front-line medical workers and others in high-risk environments. Many of these groups have shared their designs, and we have collected our favorites here. While we feel these designs are the best that we have seen, this list is not an endorsement for safety, efficacy or otherwise. We are simply providing a list of what we feel are the most promising designs available. We are also involved with producing components or entire assemblies for some of these designs ourselves.

Face Shields

  • Origami Design, entirely made from PET plastic with no additional components.

  • Delve Design, using a shield cut from PET plastic, with a foam head band and elastic or other material for a head band.

  • Budmen, using a shield cut from PET plastic, a 3D-printed visor, and elastic or other head band material.

  • “Wilson” (beta, work in progress), using a shield cut from PET plastic, a laser-cut or water-jet acrylic visor, and various head band material options. This is our own MakeIt Labs variation on a Budmen design, aimed at faster production.

Face Masks

  • MakerMask Surge, an easy-to-sew, everyday use mask made from Non-Woven Polypropylene (NWPP) re-usable shopping bags.

  • MakerMask Fit (beta, work-in-progress), a more difficult to sew mask with improved fit and filtration capabilities.

  • Makeit Fitted Mask FM1 (beta, work-in-progress), our own MakeIt Labs face mask project made from NWPP surgical wrap and featuring heat-sealed seams instead of sewing.
